How To Configure Verizon 5G Gateway With Orbi RBK753 Router

We’ve had Verizon 5G internet for about 2 years now and my son loved it. The latency is quite low and consistent for online high resolution games which we tried others and they’re not as good as Verizon 5G. We have the 300Mbs plan which we only pay $25/month with our Cellular Family Plan for as long as we’re with Verizon which is great.

It was a misconception that the download speed has to be high for the kids to play high resolution games online, but the actual components that work is the internet latency low and the computer speed and graphic card must be good. We’ve just built for my son for less than $900 which he can play all the hardest games out there.

So with 300Mbs plan which is quite efficient for our home, the Verizon 5G Router only supply 300Mbs maximum to our house and we can divide to all the devices in the house which about 30 of them because of cameras, security devices, phones, tuya devices, etc. My son got the ethernet connection which delivers between 60Mbs-110Mbs at all time while the others shared the rest of the bandwidth.

The Verizon 5G gateway is quite limited, it’s only upload 10Mbs-16Mbs max, although download speed normally 180Mbs-300Mbs dependent upon the time of day. The range of Wifi is not very far if you have a 2300 Sqft home with 2 stories. We decided to get the Mesh Netgear RBK753 which includes RBR750 router and 2 RBS750 satellites to cover the whole house, which it did. In order to do that, we have to put Verizon 5G gateway to bypass mode and the RBR750 to router mode.

When Verizon 5G Gateway is in bypass mode, the led is instead of and the RBR750 has to be connected to instead of LAN1 because LAN1 no longer used. Can only be used to reconfigure the gateway back to router mode.

One thing to notice is when we use orbilogin.com, it’s default to Verizon 5G Gateway instead of the Orbi itself. If we want to access to RBR750 menu, we have to use 10.0.0.1 or get the IP address from Verizon 5G Gateway.

Setup The Verizon 5G Gateway

1. The ip address default is 192.168.0.1 – the default username is admin and the password is in the bottom of the Gateway – The wifi SSID and Password also on the bottom.

2. Just need to login as admin and start to configure the WIFI SSID and Guest, very easy and simple, unless you want to configure it as bypass mode as we’re doing on this post. I do recommend to get a mesh wifi system since they’re quite inexpensive these days.

3. Mesh Wifi System: I’ve been using Netgear Orbi since the 50 to now 750 and they’re good and reliable.
